Having noticed AI being talked about in the media a lot recently I wondered how it could be used to improve a football team’s performance. Managers use data and game analysis so surely using AI is just the next step.
I presume it could gather data on both the users team and the team they are playing and use cameras to analyse live action and make informed decisions on the starting 11, formation, tactics, substitutions etc.
The team manager would just implement instructions from AI.
Could AI be the perfect manager?

You wouldn't train the AI on a particular manager's style, you just provide it with the data and let it come to the decision of what it thinks is the optimal strategy. I reckon it would need at least ten mins of football before it's better than Moyes.
Probably be really useful for scouting and player recruitment.

Liverpool and a few other clubs have already started.
Liverpool have joined forces with DeepMind to explore the use of artificial intelligence in the football world.
The two groups got together to discuss where AI might be able to help football players and coaches. Liverpool also provided DeepMind with data on every Premier League game the club played between 2017 and 2019.

Exactly my point. How much data would AI need before it can make better decisions than Moyes? Plus it self trains so wouldn’t keep repeating the same mistakes.
Forget offside & VAR, I’m talking about managerial decisions like team selection & tactics.

Who would "train" the AI? Whose neural networks would you map to provide decisioning? Alf Ramsey? Pep? All manager of all time? Some elements of football are so subjective and dependent on human error that currently it would fail, Nearer the singularity it might work. With binary decisions such as offside etc then it would perform better than that shower of shite in Stockley Park right now.

Could be used for Off-side VAR calls. But you would obviously need two distinct algorithms...
